Canoe is an advertising technology company that provides software and enablement services to national television programming companies like NBCU, Disney, Fox, Discovery, etc.  Canoe was founded in 2008 by the largest multi-system cable operators (MSOs).  Comcast, Charter Communications, and Cox Communications now own the company. The company is focused on delivering dynamically inserted on-demand advertising to cable set-top boxes in close to 40 million households in the US and is expanding its service internationally.  Canoe is the best of both a large company with access to the resources of multi-billion corporations while operating as a small, self-sufficient company capable of quick, valuable contributions to the business of our customers and partners.  Canoe is the linchpin for the future of television advertising. Canoe is headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado, with satellite offices in New York, Toronto and Atlanta.

 

What position are we looking for and what will it do?

We are seeking a Director of Product. This position will report to the VP of Product Management as part of team under Canoe’s CRO that includes sales, marketing, and GMs of each line of business.

 

Canoe’s Product Management group is responsible for defining products across multiple lines of Canoe’s business, and as such works heavily with external parties (e.g., MSO’s, television programmers, and others) and is closely aligned with Canoe’s GM’s, as well as Canoe’s Operations & Engineering groups.

 

This role is critical to ensuring Canoe continues to profitably create, communicate and deliver superior value to our customers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Define, oversee, lead, and champion multiple Canoe products

  • Methodically understand the needs of Canoe’s target customers and the ecosystems in which they operate so as to help lead the organization to profitably create, communicate and deliver superior value to those customers

  • Proactively ensure Canoe’s prioritized products are being built such that they will satisfy the intended audience or business need and will be delivered on time

  • Help maintain Canoe’s product roadmap across business lines, as well as product opportunities, ensuring up-to-date and relevant inputs from business units, engineering, and operations

  • Create & update external-facing, customer guides of certain Canoe’s products that document such things as features, processes, and workflows

  • Develop a strong working relationship with Canoe’s engineering team to:

    • provide details to accomplish technical feasibility/scoping analyses

    • document product requirements

    • serve as the product Subject Matter Expert in products you own

  • Develop a strong working relationship with Canoe’s operations team to:

    • understand how various Canoe products are functioning ‘on the ground’

    • execute one-off proof of concepts as necessary

    • advocate for Operations as products are prioritized, understanding operational impacts vs. potential revenue opportunities

  • Work with third parties to establish partnerships and seize opportunities

  • Be an expert with respect to the industry; have an informed point of view

  • Travel may be required to attend customer visits, internal team meetings, conferences and other events

 

Who are we looking for?

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 7 – 10+ years product or related experience

  • Superior communication skills

    • ability to communicate effectively to both technical and business experts

    • can tailor your message to your audience

  • Technical experience, with proof of technical chops

  • Track record of working effectively with business, engineering, and operations teams

  • Ability to present complicated concepts in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Extremely detail oriented

  • Demonstrated record of successfully

    • driving a product agenda across an organization

    • managing multiple products from conception to launch

    • iterating on existing projects to improve and refine them

  • Advanced level proficiency of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • experience working in or with the following:

    • MSOs

    • television programmers

    • IP streaming services

    • programmatic

    • addressable advertising

  • background in engineering

Our benefit package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance along with STD/LTD, life insurance, commuter benefits, and a full offering of voluntary insurance. Medical insurance for all coverage levels is 100% employer paid. Dental insurance for employee only coverage is 100% employer paid. Canoe contributes to your HSA_account. Canoe matches your 401k contribution 100% up to 8%. We have unlimited vacation and flexible office hours. The starting wage for this position is $132,000 with a 25% bonus opportunity. Final pay will be determined by one or more of the following: seniority, merit, quality and/or quantity of production, education, training, experience, location, and travel. This position is located in Lakewood, CO.
